How To Draw Baby Ariel
Today we'll be learning how to draw Ariel, from Disney's The Little Mermaid. Ariel is one of the most famous Disney princesses, and The Little Mermaid remains a classic! So get your pencils ready and let's learn how to draw Ariel step by step!
Step 1
To get Ariel started, we will first need to draw a circle, which will be the base for her head. Underneath this circle, draw another small triangle shape which will define her lower jaw.
Step 2
Draw a small neck that continues from below her jaw, and two lines that extend from her neck to give Ariel shoulders. Erase the lines between the circle and triangle you drew in the last step to give Ariel a solid head.
Step 3
Underneath the two lines you drew in the previous step, give Ariel her trademark seashell bikini, and two lines extending below that to form her torso.
Step 4
Extend Ariel's arms a slight bit away from her body. Each arm should taper to be more narrow at the end which will become her wrist.
Step 5
To keep the dainty feel of Ariel, we will be drawing her hands pointing upward, with her fingers fairly close together, as shown in the image on the left.
Step 6
Repeat the same process to draw Ariel's other hand, and draw the two fins that sit on either side of her hips.
Step 7
The lower part of Ariel's body is nothing more than a tail, which you can make by drawing a long, curved oval where her legs would be, and two smaller fins at the end of her tail.
Step 8
We will be drawing Ariel's hair in two parts. First, draw a large chunk of hair that sits at the front of her head, and swoops to the left. This piece of hair should only cover about a third of the total length of Ariel's head.
Step 9
We will be finishing Ariel's hair by drawing the other half as one solid piece of hair that rests behind her body. Her hair should come down to her hips, and flow just slightly to the right. Adding plenty of waves to Ariel's hair will keep the effect that she is floating in water.
Step 10
Give Ariel two very large eyes, which should be nearly perfectly flat on the bottom. Also, a simple small triangle will complete Ariel's nose.
Step 11
At this point Ariel is pretty much complete. All that's left to do is to give her a small smiling mouth, and a few lines that run down the fins in her tail.
That's that! I hope you've enjoyed learning how to draw Ariel with me. If you did, be sure to check out the rest of our tutorials—especially how to draw her faithful companion, Flounder!
